Hotels and Accommodation in Allgäu

Allgau is an idyllic German region located in south-western Bavaria that’s been pampered to the hilt by Mother Nature. She definitely didn’t cut any corners. The region spreads towards the Alps with a part of it also spilling out into the south-eastern side of Baden-Württemberg state. It has more mountains, valleys and meadows than it knows what to do with!

Panorama

Allgäu caters to different tastes. Its mountains offer a popular haunt for those who are into skiing and hiking. And with its boundless scenery and fresh air, it offers the perfect retreat for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of a demanding city – no smog and less in the way of buildings blocking the view of the sky. It’s also great for families not just for skiing and hiking but for other activities including exquisite natural health and spa treatments, horse riding, golfing, canoeing, hang gliding as well as museum exploration and tours of old churches and monasteries. From the old former-Roman town of Kempten to the majestic Tannheimer Valley to the glittering Lake Constance, the region of Allgau has a lot to show.

The accommodation that one chooses to stay in Allgau really depends on what one plans to do whilst there. However, there’s a plethora of hotels (or Hotel Allgäu) and other types of accommodation to choose from that cater to most people’s budgets – holiday houses, guest houses, apartments and even mobile homes and farms.

What better name to give a hotel based in Oberstdorf than, erm, Hotel Oberstdorf, of course! The four-star rated hotel has apparently been re-built using 100% natural resources – this bit of information might be a strong selling point for a number of people thinking of booking a room there.

The hotel also takes pride in offering its guests a comfortable home-away-from-home environment with its spacious and well-equipped guestrooms, in-house wellness centre and a very active entertainment roster. Its website (which is available in several languages) also has quite a lot of images to view to give any potential guests more of a feel for what it offers.

Insel-Camping am See is a quiet 3 to 4 star-rated camping site in Waltenhofen. It has great mountain views and a nearby lake where activities such as scuba diving, fishing and snorkelling take place. Open all year round, it welcomes motor homes, tents and caravans on site. It is situated very close to the skiing track, spa centre, bus stop and station. There’s also a communal kitchen, fridge, dishwasher, washing machine, clothes dryer, play meadow and sunbathing lawn on site.

There are so many other accommodations, but to conclude, there’s the quiet family-run Hotel Café Alpenblick. Located in Fischen im Allgau and close to the ski track, spa centre and bus stop, the 3-star hotel is slightly lifted therefore giving its guests a unique visual angle on the nearby Iller Valley. The hotel offers a choice of holiday apartments, or hotel apartments which are more spacious. They also claim to make sumptuous breakfast buffets and great home-made cakes and cream gateaux – which might be enough to sway most people with a sweet tooth to book a room just to find out! Some people take very little persuading! The hotel also boasts a library, a sunbathing lawn, a sauna, a jacuzzi, a beer garden and offers wireless internet access (amongst other amenities they offer).

Allgau has as many forms of accommodation for its tourists as it has mountains. From plush hotels to more basic rooms and every other space in-between, one needn’t break the bank to enjoy the breathtaking spellbinding beauty of the region.
