Travel Diary from Hotel in Thüringen to Russia

The free state of Thuringia (Freistaat Thuringen in German) can be found in central Germany just north of Bavaria. Thuringen is about 5,300 kilometres away from Russia and there are a number of ways that you can make the journey between the two regions. With such a large distance to cover, most people will fly between Germany and Russia however if you have some time on your hands, it is possible to get there in a number of different ways. You can drive between Germany and Russia, you can get a bus or you can go on an overland train journey between the two countries.

As there is quite a distance between the two nations, there are a number of alternative routes to take of you are going overland. If you are staying in a Hotel Thüringen then it would be a good idea to plan which route you are going to take before you go. When taking the train between Russia and Germany it is normally a good idea to avoid Belarus as there is an extra charge for a transit visa through this country. Almost all train routes go through Warsaw in Poland, and most go through the countries of Lithuania and Latvia as well. There are a number of options to travel to and from Russia fairly cheaply through the Baltic states.

If you are planning on driving yourself, be prepared for a few headaches and a lot of tiredness. With the low cost of many train journeys a lot of people choose to go by rail if they want to go overland. If you plan your journey ahead you can even use the trains for accommodation and don't have to spend any extra money for a bed. Russia is a huge country with a lot to see and you will need a visa before you can enter. Because the distance between Thuringia and Russia is so large, I would recommend taking your time. There is a lot to see in between these two countries and doing at least a part of your journey overland is highly recommended.

Most routes between Germany and Russia use a combination of many different transport methods. You might even want to consider a Denmark holiday home (Dänemark Ferienhaus) as a little distraction on your journey. There are many companies that can offer cheap flights between European cities if you book ahead and the railways are a great way to see the countryside. No matter which way you choose to travel, a trip between Germany and Russia is sure to be an adventure.
